WHAT IS FATEFIELD?

While Fatefield can be played in various ways, Fatefield is mainly a tabletop physical board game with a true battle-royale experience where in the battlefield shrinks to force the players to take on each other until only 1 player or team survives to win the game.

WHAT MAKES IT FUN?

Uncertainty is mostly what makes Fatefield fun. At the start of the game, players will never know what guns and items they get to play with and whether or not they will be able to find their favorite gun that will make them win the game. The dice mechanics that are added to the movement, gun effects and character skills gives an extra fun factor that makes people shout and jump in excitement!

WHO IS THIS FOR?

While Fatefield can be a deep high-level gameplay that could make hard core players drown in theorycrafting, the game is actually designed for non-board gamers or people that are new into board gaming. Specifically, the game can last only 15-20 min for a 1v1 player, about 40 min for a 4-player game and even less when players already knows the game.

IS IT easy to play?

While other board games has tons of pages to read to know how to play the game, in Fatefield, there is only a 2-page back to back manual. This is because the mechanics does not involved the use of unknown symbols, elements, hard-to-digest keywords that players have to remember what each of it mean and do.

What is fatefield’s Goal?

Fatefield right now is on its beta. The game works as intended and new players did enjoy the game. however, there are a few stuff that needed to be tweaked such as some card descriptions, character balance adjustments and overall game mechanics. Right now Fatefield’s goal is to get more players to play the game and see which parts need improvement. After that, we’re gonna go global(currently Fatefield is only available in PH).

GAME UPDATE/EXPANSION

Currently in the works are the ‘Loadout Cards.’ These are additional cards that players can add to customize the abilities and build of their favorite character cards. Loadout Cards has loadout points which limits the overall power players can carry. For instance, players can agree to play in a maximum of 10 loadout points which contains about 3 to 4 cards. At this point, Fatefield can also be a TCG type of game but will not alienate the ones that play Fatefield as it is. Fatefield will continue to be a game accessible for both the casual players and hardcore board and card game overlords.

HOW FATEFIELD STArTED

TLDR: Free Fire and Black Survival were the video games that inspired a multimedia artist/esports executive that was working in the video game industry to make Fatefield

Gin Liao was a multimedia artist and an esports executive in the video gaming industry(Garena Philippines) which closed down back then in 2018 when the battle-royale games like Fortnite, PUBG and Free Fire were a big hit. At that time, Gin’s buddy was frequently going out with other friends to hang out in a board game cafe and he would always tell Gin about it. One of Gin’s dream is to publish his own video game, however, the industry til now mostly requires a person to be a ‘coder’ to be part of the game developmeant team.

The video game office was in the transition of shutting down when Gin was trying to figure out how a battle-royale genre type of game with a shrinking battlefield will work as a tabletop board game. He started to scheme everything in google sheets and photoshop.

TLDR: Gin tested the game with his buddy and both their exes using cut out bond papers and it worked, it was fun. That was the end of it because everyone got busy and work was the priority. Fatefield slept in google sheets until 2021.
